Mr Leslie Taylor served his apprenticeship at Tyzacks and sons at the Abbeydale works about 1930 When he later married in 1942 he went live in the village of Brimington nr Chesterfield and travelled to Little London road Sheffield everyday around trip of about 50 miles until his retirement in the nineteen seventies

The scythe comprises a cutting blade attached to a long wooden shaft which has two handle grips. The blade is hand forged and attached to the wooden shaft. Two turned wooden hand grips are fixed to the handle by metal brackets, one is wrapped in a piece of cloth. The scythe blade is riveted onto a supporting piece of metal which is attached to the shaft by means of a metal screw and bolt as well as a piece of wire wound around the base of the shaft and the end of the blade.
